Microsoft is getting ready to launch its brand-new Xbox mobile gaming hub in July.

Initially, the Xbox mobile store will make its debut online, showcasing popular Microsoft games like Candy Crush and Minecraft.

During the Bloomberg Technology Summit, Xbox president Sarah Bond spilled the beans on the launch date and how Microsoft plans to dodge Apple's strict App Store rules.

"We're starting with fan favorites like Candy Crush and Minecraft," Bond revealed. "Launching online means we can reach gamers everywhere, on any device, without being tied down by closed app store policies."

Although Bond hinted at games and a store during her statement, she provided more insight in a message to The Verge. "This year, we're rolling out our first mobile offering, where players can discover new games and snag deals on in-game items," Bond explained. "Starting online ensures accessibility from anywhere."

Initially, the focus will be on Microsoft's own mobile games, but there are plans to add partner games later.

Beyond just games, the Xbox mobile store aims to offer a smooth gaming experience across various devices, allowing users to carry their identity and rewards with them.

While Microsoft has been preparing for potential changes in app store regulations, it's decided not to wait around for them.

Launching a web-based mobile store comes with its challenges, but Microsoft hints at expanding beyond the web in the future.

This initiative aligns perfectly with Microsoft's goal of making gaming content available across different screens, as highlighted by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer in early 2022.
